Red soluble strip laundry bags are the standard way NHS hospitals, care homes and commercial laundries move soiled and infected linen without anyone having to handle it.
How they work
Soiled items go into the bag at the point of use and the bag is sealed shut. It travels to the laundry closed, and goes into the washing machine still sealed.
As the wash cycle runs, the hot water soluble strip dissolves and opens the bag, releasing the laundry into the drum to wash normally. Nobody has to open the bag, sort it, or come into contact with what is inside.
Important: only the strip dissolves. The bag itself stays intact, and is taken out of the machine and thrown away after the wash. If you want a sack that disappears completely in the wash, see our fully dissolvable red laundry sacks.
Why red
Red is the recognised colour code for infected and soiled linen, so a red bag tells everyone down the line what it holds without anyone needing to open or check it.

Storage and use
Keep the bags dry until they are used. Store in a dry place away from direct heat or damp, or the soluble strip can start to soften.
